The Current State of IRS Operations
Our role of being your advocate with the Internal Revenue Service has always been an important one. When you receive an IRS notice, we are prepared to resolve them as quickly and as favorably as we can.
The challenges of the COVID- 19 pandemics caused the IRS to alter its operations significantly. This has limited our ability to communicate with Service personnel which in turn delays, and oftentimes impedes, our ability to quickly resolve tax issues with them.
The IRS admits that less than 10% of the people trying to reach the IRS (by phone) are able to get through. Our effective contact rate with the IRS is less than that – it is in the 7% to 8%.
In addition, The Internal Revenue Service recently reported that it has a backlog of 35 million unprocessed tax returns.
