MillerMusmar CPAs is Honored to Support the 47th Annual Fairfax County Valor Awards
On Monday, April 7, 2025, the MillerMusmar CPAs team was honored to participate in the 47th Annual Fairfax County Valor Awards, continuing our long-standing tradition as an Executive Sponsor of this prestigious event.
For more than 11 years, MillerMusmar CPAs has proudly supported the Fairfax County Valor Awards, a significant annual ceremony hosted by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce that recognizes the heroic contributions of our community’s first responders. This year’s gathering was held at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA, featuring a series of inspiring narratives that highlighted courage, quick action, and steadfast dedication.
The afternoon was marked by heartfelt moments as we paid tribute to firefighters, police officers, and paramedics who selflessly place their lives on the line to protect and serve our community. These accounts serve as a potent reminder of the extraordinary bravery required to maintain public safety, often under life-threatening conditions.
Spotlight: PFC Neil Simpson – A Distinguished Example of Off-Duty Valor
Among the many extraordinary stories of heroism, the actions of Police Officer First Class Neil Simpson emerged as a distinguished example of valor, even while off duty.
On the evening of December 31, 2024, while returning home with his wife in Prince William County, PFC Simpson observed a woman in distress who was attempting to seek help. Without a moment’s hesitation, he instructed his wife to pull over and intervened—discovering that the woman had been assaulted by her intoxicated spouse.
While PFC Simpson sought to de-escalate the situation, the suspect made two attempts to run over both him and the victim with his vehicle. When those attempts failed, he physically assaulted the woman and subsequently brandished a knife during a confrontational struggle with PFC Simpson. Despite suffering multiple stab wounds, PFC Simpson successfully disarmed and restrained the assailant until local law enforcement arrived—all while unarmed and without assistance.
“He didn’t consider the risks involved. He recognized someone in peril and took immediate action—because that is his character,” remarked a fellow officer.
Thanks to his prompt and selfless intervention, the female victim was spared further harm, and the attacker was subsequently arrested and charged. PFC Simpson’s courage, resilience, and commitment exemplify valor in the truest sense.
