Accounting Manager

MillerMusmar CPAs is an award-winning CPA firm located in Reston, Virginia that provides accounting, tax, assurance, and management advisory services. We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee general accounting operations. Summary:
The Accounting Manager works closely with Partners, Supervisors, Seniors, Staff, and Clients to facilitate completion of all components of accounting engagements. Including oversight of the accounting department and team members, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting work, reviewing workpapers, completing compilations, interfacing with client executives, participating in accounting financial statement presentations to client, and providing the final accounting documents to clients for distribution. This position will report to one of the firm’s Partners.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Review all monthly compilations
  • Review monthly payroll and sales tax calculations
  • Review cash flow forecasts
  • Review fixed asset and depreciation calculations
  • Provides Price Engagement Letter and Proposals
  • Review and oversee Engagement CS accounting work ensure timely run around all accounting department engagements.
  • Manages Accounting Client Billing
  • Enforcement of Billing Policy
  • Manages Accounting Department Budgets/Realization/Deadlines
  • Utilize Practice CS daily to monitor project status is current
  • Conduct weekly accounting meetings
  • Attend weekly management meetings
  • Work with Dept. Heads to ensure deadlines are met
  • Schedule client meetings, agenda and manage report due dates.
  • Assist with other client services as outlined in the firm’s engagement letter and proposal submitted to the client.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Mentor, supervise, and train accounting staff
  • Address client and staff questions and concerns in a timely matter
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Leverage technology to create more efficient processes and enhance staff productivity
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have 5 years relevant work experience in public accounting firms
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Management
  • CPA desirable, but not required
  • Computer Skills required: Expert Level experience in Accounting Software (QuickBooks or similar) and Excel is a must

Required Abilities and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must have extensive experience in multi-state Sales tax, BPOL and Personal Property Tax Returns
  • Should have extensive knowledge in payroll and payroll reporting – Dealings with multi-state payroll are desirable
  • Should be familiar with industries such as Government Contracting, Not-for-Profits, and General Business
  • Experience with ProSystem Engagement, Practice CS, Bill.com, Deltek, Procas and/or other accounting systems, is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong organizational and detailed skills
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

Audit Manager

MillerMusmar is looking for a Senior Tax Accountant interested in pushing themselves into new and interesting challenges that includes all aspects of taxation, including a substantial amount of international tax issues. The seasoned tax leadership within the Firm is focused on leading, assisting, and mentoring our tax staff to enhance their opportunities to learn and successfully participate in complex client service opportunities.

Job Summary: The Audit Manager works closely with Partners, Supervisors, Seniors, Staff, and clients to facilitate completion of all components of audit engagements. The Audit Manager is responsible for overseeing audit fieldwork, reviewing workpapers, preparing client files for partner review, interfacing with client executives, participating in audit presentations to client governing boards, and providing the final audit documents to clients for distribution.

  • Mentor, supervise, and train Staff, Senior, and Supervisor Auditors (comfortable working with remote team including overseas staff)
  • Work closely with the managing partner on business development
  • Participate in the administrative responsibilities and recruitment for Audit Department
  • Schedule client engagements and manage report due dates
  • Oversee audit fieldwork and be available to address questions from engagement in-charge or client
  • Review planning letters or workpapers and ensure planning is complete before starting a new engagement
  • Review workpapers and audit documents prepared by Staff, Senior, or Supervisor Auditors
  • Make Partner reviews smooth and efficient
  • Manage tax return due dates for audit clients
  • Assist with other client services as outlined in the firm’s engagement letter and proposal submitted to the client
  • Participate with Partner in presenting audit results to the client’s governing body

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • CPA preferred
  • 6-8 years of public accounting experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP and GAAS
  • Knowledge of a variety of software packages (Pro fx Engagement, APT, and Checkpoint Tools)
  • Proficient with Microsoft office
  • Strong time management, organizational abilities, attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills

Senior Accountant

MillerMusmar CPAs is an award-winning CPA firm located in Reston, VA that provides accounting, tax, assurance, and management advisory services. We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying client financial transactions.

Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Staff Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants and junior accountants.

Duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
  • Provide input into department’s goal setting process
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
  • Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Partners with clients by understanding their business and industry and provides ongoing service, insights and support.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • 3-5 years of public accounting experience
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Awareness of business trends
  • Familiarity with financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • CPA will be preferred

Position Overview

The Senior Tax Accountant will work within the engagement team and assist in the delivery of technically accurate solutions and best in class client service to our international client base. You will utilize your professional experience on various tax consulting, planning, and compliance services for domestic and international corporate, partnership, and individual tax clients. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and/or reviewing income tax returns and supporting workpapers.
  • Researching technical solutions to client transactions to ensure accurate tax reporting and planning. Preparation of the related documentation.
  • Preparation and/or review of tax planning in support of proposed transactions.
  • Engaging in client correspondence and relationship building.
  • Implementing improvements to the tax function to ensure compliance with current laws
  • Assisting in the supervision, review, and mentoring of tax staff.
  • Participating in Firm community activities.
  • Continually growing your technical and professional skills and stay current with tax law changes

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent experience in a public accounting firm.
  • Bachelor of Science/Arts in Accounting; Masters of Tax preferred.
  • Experience with the preparation/review of federal and state corporate, partnership and individual income tax returns, including larger multi-state business entities.
  • General understanding of international tax and exposure to tax reporting for international activities.
  • Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct tax research and document findings accordingly.
  • Microsoft® Office (including PowerPoint), CCH ProSystem(fx)®, Engagement® , and other tax compliance and research software proficiency.
  • Manage multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines
  • CPA or CPA candidate

Preferred but not Required

  • Tax treaty position experience
  • Big 4 or large firm experience

Tax Supervisor

Job Summary: The Tax Supervisor will lead and manage multiple operations within the Tax Department to provide accurate and timely tax services to our clients. They will manage members of the tax team, create, and implement tax plans, and work with the leadership team to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. They will also monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Interact with clients and build strong relationships by delivering excellent planning, consulting, and preparation service experiences
  • Deliver a full range of tax services in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Proactively provide innovative federal and multistate tax planning services
  • Review complex income tax returns and supporting workpapers
  • Identify and mitigate client’s tax risks
  • Coordinate, plan and supervise multiple tax engagements
  • Assist tax seniors and tax staff by mentoring, providing technical training and support and promoting the firm’s culture
  • Improve processes by developing and implementing best practices for delivering tax services in a paperless environment
  • Assist with federal and state tax audits
  • Prepare tax work papers, as needed, and handle all information data requests
  • Assist the accounting team by maintaining tax accounts and participating in the corporate tax provision process

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Accounting
  • 4-7 years of public accounting experience
  • Knowledge of CCH Engagement and CCH Pro FX tax preparation software
  • Broad knowledge of federal and state income tax returns, tax compliance, tax accounting and GAAP
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • CPA preferred
  • Should possess strong teamwork skills, an attention to detail and the ability to exhibit sound professional judgement when dealing with client matters
  • This is a remote position and a dedicated workspace in your home is required
