Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager works closely with Partners, Supervisors, Seniors, Staff, and Clients to facilitate the completion of all components of accounting engagements. Including oversight of the accounting department and team members, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting work, reviewing work papers, completing compilations, interfacing with client executives, participating in accounting financial statement presentations to clients, and providing the final accounting documents to clients for distribution. This position will report to one of the firm’s Partners.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Review all monthly compilations
Review monthly payroll and sales tax calculations
Review cash flow forecasts
Review fixed asset and depreciation calculations
Provides Price Engagement Letter and Proposals
Review and oversee Engagement CS accounting work ensure timely run around all accounting department engagements.
Manages Accounting Client Billing
Enforcement of Billing Policy
Manages Accounting Department Budgets/Realization/Deadlines
Utilize Practice CS daily to monitor project status is current
Conduct weekly accounting meetings
Attend weekly management meetings
Work with Dept. Heads to ensure deadlines are met
Schedule client meetings, agenda and manage report due dates.
Assist with other client services as outlined in the firm’s engagement letter and proposal submitted to the client.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Mentor, supervise, and train accounting staff
Address client and staff questions and concerns in a timely matter
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Leverage technology to create more efficient processes and enhance staff productivity
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and Experience:

Must have 5 years of relevant work experience in public accounting firms
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Management
CPA desirable, but not required
Computer Skills required: Expert Level experience in Accounting Software (QuickBooks or similar) and Excel is a must
Required Abilities and Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Must have extensive experience in multi-state Sales tax, BPOL and Personal Property Tax Returns
Should have extensive knowledge in payroll and payroll reporting - Dealings with multi-state payroll are desirable
Should be familiar with industries such as Government Contracting, Not-for-Profits, and General Business
Experience with ProSystem Engagement, Practice CS, Bill.com, Deltek, Procas and/or other accounting systems, is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Strong organizational and detailed skills
Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

Senior Tax Accountant

The Senior Tax Accountant will work within the engagement team and assist in the delivery of technically accurate solutions and best in class client service to our international client base. You will utilize your professional experience in various tax consulting, planning, and compliance services for domestic and international corporate, partnership, and individual tax clients. Additional responsibilities include:

Preparing and/or reviewing income tax returns and supporting work papers.
Researching technical solutions to client transactions to ensure accurate tax reporting and planning. Preparation of the related documentation.
Preparation and/or review of tax planning in support of proposed transactions.
Engaging in client correspondence and relationship building.
Implementing improvements to the tax function to ensure compliance with current laws
Assisting in the supervision, review, and mentoring of tax staff.
Participating in Firm community activities.
Continually growing your technical and professional skills and stay current with tax law changes

Minimum Requirements

At least 2 years of recent experience in a public accounting firm.
Bachelor of Science/Arts in Accounting; Masters of Tax preferred.
Experience with the preparation/review of federal and state corporate, partnership and individual income tax returns, including larger multi-state business entities.
General understanding of international tax and exposure to tax reporting for international activities.
Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
Ability to conduct tax research and document findings accordingly.
Microsoft® Office (including PowerPoint), CCH ProSystem(fx)®, Engagement ®, and other tax compliance and research software proficiency.
Manage multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines

Senior Staff Accountant (Government Contracting)

This position is a great alternative to the typical accounting, tax and audit positions particularly if you enjoy client service, continuous learning, and a great team to work with.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares day-to-day and month-end close entries including revenue, payroll, prepaid expenses, unbilled accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities.
Prepares complex reconciliations for necessary balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts, as needed.
Assists with the month-end and year-end closing process.
Develops and maintains an understanding of the accounting operations within each assigned client. Obtains a working knowledge of the client’s accounting software packages. Responsible for recommending and enforcing the internal controls, policies, and procedures established by the client.
Assists external auditors and tax accountants at year- end with preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data.
Assists in the preparation of the client’s year-end 1099 submissions.
Recommends, designs, and implements any necessary department controls and procedures.
Interacts with the client as needed.
Supervisory responsibilities include:
Reviews and supervises staff accountant’s monthly work, including but not limited to, journal entries, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Coaches and mentors Staff Accountants through project management
Disburses client requests to team members to manage deadlines
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Required)
Utmost discretion, strong ethics
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the accounting field
Strong understanding of Accounting Principles, knowledge of GAAP
Advanced understanding of general and subsidiary ledgers and financial statements
Understanding of government contract compliance regulations found in the FAR, CAS, etc.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Extremely detail orientated with strong analytical skills
Good time management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives and client requirements
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment

Senior Staff Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Staff Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants and junior accountants.

Duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks.

Responsibilities

- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards-setting and in the forecast process
- Provide input into the department’s goal setting process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Liaise with managing partners and other senior staff members to improve financial procedures

Requirements

- Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experiences with accounting software packages, like FreshBooks and QuickBooks
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
- CPA will be preferred
