Senior Staff Accountant (Government Contracting)

This position is a great alternative to the typical accounting, tax and audit positions particularly if you enjoy client service, continuous learning, and a great team to work with.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares day-to-day and month-end close entries including revenue, payroll, prepaid expenses, unbilled accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities.
Prepares complex reconciliations for necessary balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts, as needed.
Assists with the month-end and year-end closing process.
Develops and maintains an understanding of the accounting operations within each assigned client. Obtains a working knowledge of the client’s accounting software packages. Responsible for recommending and enforcing the internal controls, policies, and procedures established by the client.
Assists external auditors and tax accountants at year- end with preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data.
Assists in the preparation of the client’s year-end 1099 submissions.
Recommends, designs, and implements any necessary department controls and procedures.
Interacts with the client as needed.
Supervisory responsibilities include:
Reviews and supervises staff accountant’s monthly work, including but not limited to, journal entries, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Coaches and mentors Staff Accountants through project management
Disburses client requests to team members to manage deadlines
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Required)
Utmost discretion, strong ethics
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the accounting field
Strong understanding of Accounting Principles, knowledge of GAAP
Advanced understanding of general and subsidiary ledgers and financial statements
Understanding of government contract compliance regulations found in the FAR, CAS, etc.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Extremely detail orientated with strong analytical skills
Good time management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives and client requirements
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment

Senior Staff Accountant

Senior Staff Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Staff Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants and junior accountants.

Duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks.

Responsibilities

- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards-setting and in the forecast process
- Provide input into the department’s goal setting process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Liaise with managing partners and other senior staff members to improve financial procedures

Requirements

- Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experiences with accounting software packages, like FreshBooks and QuickBooks
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
- CPA will be preferred

Senior Tax Accountant

The Senior Tax Accountant will work within the engagement team and assist in the delivery of technically accurate solutions and best in class client service to our international client base. You will utilize your professional experience on various tax consulting, planning, and compliance services for domestic and international corporate, partnership, and individual tax clients. Additional responsibilities include

- Preparing and/or reviewing income tax returns and supporting work papers.
- Researching technical solutions to client transactions to ensure accurate tax reporting and planning. Preparation of the related documentation.
- Preparation and/or review of tax planning in support of proposed transactions or estimated tax payments.
- Engaging in client correspondence and relationship building.
- Assisting in the supervision and mentoring of tax staff.
- Participating in Firm community activities.
- Continually growing your technical and professional skills.

Minimum Requirements

- 3 to 5 years of recent experience in a public accounting firm.
- Bachelor of Science/Arts in Accounting; Masters of Tax preferred.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Experience with the preparation/review of federal and state corporate, partnership and individual income tax returns, including larger multi-state business entities.
- General understanding of international tax and exposure to tax reporting for international activities.
- Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
- Ability to conduct tax research and document findings accordingly.

Tax Supervisor

MillerMusmar CPAs - Reston, VA


The Tax Supervisor will help lead and manage the firm’s growth, identify and seize new business opportunities, supervise staff and work closely with the managers and managing partner. In this position, the supervisor will manage and drive the success of multiple engagements and work to attract, develop, and retain top talent. The individual in this position will also have the opportunity to conduct tax research on various complicated foreign and domestic tax issues. Public tax/accounting experience is mandatory.

Essential Job Functions

-Ability to manage within budgetary and time constraints while providing a high-level of client satisfaction.
-Anticipates and addresses client concerns and escalating problems as they arise.
- Coordinate, plan and supervise multiple engagements which include consulting, compliance, and tax planning services
- Prepare and oversee all federal, state, multi-state, and international income tax returns
- Review tax returns
- Oversee all aspects of Individual, Partnership, Corporate, Trust, and Estate issues
- Prepare tax projections and tax provisions
- Prepare tax planning assignments
- Recognize potential problems within engagements and discuss these with the manager or partner
- Conduct research and planning according to applicable tax laws and regulations
- Appropriately and timely respond to IRS and state tax notices
- Communicate with clients as directed by Manager or Managing Partner
- Oversee and coordinate tax staff with Audit Team during the preparation of tax provisions and tax returns
- Communicate with managers regarding work-loads and project status
- Coordinate staff and technical activities related to tax processes

Assists with:

- Training and mentoring of new and existing team members
- Staff performance evaluations
- Developing tax technical knowledge in the area of complex corporations and international tax
- Ensuring documentation is retained in accordance with federal, state, and local tax agency requirements, and client contract requirements.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor of Science/Arts in Accounting; Masters of Tax preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant license required.
- 5+ years of experience in a public accounting firm
- Strong business writing and communication skills.
- Solid tax research and writing skills.
- Microsoft® Office (including PowerPoint), CCH ProSystem(fx)®, Engagement®, and other tax compliance and research software proficiency.
- General understanding of international tax including but not limited to; Form 2555, 5471, 5472, 8938, Fincen 114 and OVDP
- Experience preparing Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Packages, including ones under IRS’ streamline procedures.
